That puts essential repairs and eco-friendly updates, as well as decorating projects, out of the reach of many families and encourages others to employ cash-only builders with no guarantees. Cutting VAT will also encourage developers to look at adapting existing housing stock rather than bulldozing established communities because it is cheaper to build new homes from scratch."
